I told you we'd be doing something awesome this weekend, and we did. We went to Phillip Island!!
If you're not familiar with it, Phillip Island is a sweet little island about three hours away [by car it's only 90 min.]. Visit their
website for more info, cause there is
tons of stuff to do there [including a Penguin Parade!] that we didn't even come close to doing. [Especially since we only stayed for one night.]
We started our journey by taking the train to Southern Cross station. It's got some stunning architecture.
From there we took a coach bus to the island.
So many strange people on one bus.
Because we were on and island, the first thing we did was head to the beach.
We had yummy pizza for dinner and then went back to the beach for sunset.
If there were happy trees, this would definitely be a Bob Ross painting.
After the gorgeous sunset we wandered around town for a bit. After no time at all we got stuck in a rainstorm and were soaked by the time we got back to our hostel.
We took cover in these trees.
Finally made it back. Soaked.
The next morning we got up bright and early to visit the Phillip Island Wildlife Park. This park was amazing. We got to hand feed free ranging kangaroos and wallabies, and we saw tons of other animals native to Australia.
The road we walked along.
Kangaroos and wallabies everywhere!
Lazy. Koalas and wallabies. Quintessential Australia. The ugliest bird I have ever seen. G'Day. Where's my food? I call it 'Kangaroo head in bag o' food'.
Proof that kangaroo claws are sharp.
The wildlife park was definitely the highlight of our trip. [If you couldn't tell.]
Now we can say, 'why yes, I did play with a kangaroo in Australia.'
The Emu that stole our food.
Sideways, but still worth it.
